Really? I don't hate or despise Clint Eastwood, Kelsey Grammar, Jon Voight, et al. In fact, I like them all. My own parents are conservatives, I have conservative friends, I have no problem with conservatives, or old-style conservatism for that matter, even if I lean more left than that. Neoconservatism I do have a problem with, but I'm sure plenty of neocons are swell people personally.

On the other hand, all Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks) had to do was say ONE THING critical of Bush, and she got death threats and country radio simply stopped playing the chicks, essentially ending their careers as country artists. Talk about hating and despising.

Mee TOo--- About the time he picked Palin... Then it was just no way!!!

I do have a question Palin is suppose to be the Vice President, right? Then why does SHE keep comparing herself to Obama? That is just wrong and disrespectful.

Both times for Clinton and in fact the year he ran in '92 was the year I turned 18 :)).

But the McCain of 2008 is just a different person. I will advise anyone to read last month's 'The Economist' that did a great job of explaining how much the McCain of 2000 changed to the man of 2008 and how he basically morphed into a Bush clone because he saw that was the way to get to the White House....and sadly he may be right, but that automatically means hes no longer right for me.

And yeah, Palin, Palin, PALIN!!!! That was the final straw for me, period. I consider myself a moderate more than left wing any day of the week, but then when I see what matters to people that loves Palin so much, it automatically throws me back in the left wing section ;). NO WAY could I even THINK the way these people do to put someone like that in office.

I have to agree with this statement sadly, it IS a double standard, I admit. I would LOVE to see what happens on one of these award shows like the Oscars, emmys, etc if a Republican supporter said something in kind about Bush or that Iraq is a good thing and watch the lynching lol. I watch that girl on THE VIEW (dont know her name, just want to marry her ;)) and she is the lone descent in that group and I imagine its hard when you have people like Rosie ODonnell and Joy Behr can go on and on aobut how much Bush is the devil, but when she defends him, its almost crickets in the room lol.

Popular culture wise, its NOT that easy, espcially if you are a celebrity on the other side, we should admit this. BUT, I notice that characters on tv shows are making more inroads of pushing conservative beliefs (even if its just for laughs) like Danny Crane on Boston Legal (LOVE that show and character), Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock and etc. I think just like Americans are getting use to more gay characters, they are letting in more Republican spewing ones too ;D. But yes, its still heavily titlted to the other way.

Also, turn into on an episode of late night talk shows like David Letterman, John Stewart, Bill Mahr lately? The other two hosts are infamous for their left wing beliefs, but I'm even shocked how much Letterman doesnt hide his views of the Bush adminstration anymore. Its no longer just 'for laughs' and we cant forget the drumming he gave Mccain last week lol. Yes, it was bitterness because he skipped the show, but I think it gave Letterman an excuse to also say how he REALLY feel about McCain as well ;). And Palin got a maaaajor beating on his show after the debates---not a peep about Biden. So yeah, I WILL admit it, popular culuture and celebrities in general are in the democratic pocket. I live abroad and I'm surprised how much its one sided of whats shown here and I'm ON that side lol.

Truth is, the Republican party has always been about shoving its morals down peoples throats, ESPECIALLY when it comes to Hollywood. It doesnt help itself when it condems freedom of speech and expression for things like sexuality, athiesm, decent against the war and other 'sins' that it accuses others of doing. The conservatives are the first one to make a fuss about what's 'appropriate' for people to watch and not to watch in an industry that's ALL about freedom of speech and creating art as expression for that decent.

It's the Republican conservatives who tells others what kind of music they should be listening too, uncomfortable about homosexuality on and off the movie screens and have no problem regulating standards when they feel things like drugs, alcohol and smoking is too rampant in films....while still have no problem being in the pocket of lobbyist like the NRA. The hypocricy of condeming one act while looking away at others when it benefits you doesnt help.

And historically, lets not forget the man who to this day who is probably the Republican that created the animosity between the Republican party and Hollywood today and was the epitome of everything I just said: HUAC running Joseph McCarthy!! The man who was willing to take anyone down in Hollywood as a communist stooge and blacklist them forever if he thought their liberal sensibilities: i.e. secret homosexuality, drug influence, views against god, etc was against Christian valued America.

To this day, that guy is still part of the reason why Republicans are percieved enemy No. 1 in popular culture decades later.

That's just my take though :).
