Another ride I just can't understand is the Golden Zephyr. How on earth is this thing still at DCA and who even goes on it?

I also have asked myself why the heck they have the Golden Zephyr at DCA.

Hate the plastic seat belts though. How much more could it have cost to do period-appropriate cloth?

LOL, me too. To me the attraction is kind of like King Arthur's Carousel: an attraction that you could easily skip, but is an integral part of the overall experience even if you just look at it for a few minutes. I call them the "in-between" rides.

Yep. Zephyr is one of those unique authentic details that few theme park operators would build today besides Disney.

I like the GZ, but more for the atmosphere it adds to the park than for the thrill of the ride itself.

I'm a kid when I'm DL. The last time I was there I took my first Fire Engine ride on down Main Street. It was pretty cool and we had a great chat with cast member who drove us.

Sometimes taking a spin on these smaller type of rides boils down to being too lazy to stand in line for hour for something bigger, or "let's just do this now since we're standing right here and there's no line", or killing time before waiting for a FP reservation, a parade or a show to begin.

Well, I don't see it as thrilling, but relaxing. That's another reason I like it. "Relaxing" has become kind of a lost art in theme parks, even Disney ones.

Don't forget, the original version of it was not permitted to run if there was wind blowing. Which there ALWAYS is. They had to make modifications to it so it could "withstand" 5 MPH gusts and they could actually open it every once and awhile.

Never let it be forgot what a MESS they made of DCA when it first opened.

I don't get it!

Is the current attraction different from the one that was there in 2001?
