I don't think either kid has seen it yet (not 100 percent sure though). Thanks.

From what I hear, the too are like the difference between a Manderin and a Valencia orange. They are both very similar, and yet a little different. The music varies slightly and the stage show better follows Travers' books. You may wish to start by reading the books to the children. Also, I think it depends on how picky they are. When Harry Potter and the Philosophers' Stone debuted on film, my kid brothers poked loads of holes in it compared to the books. But they still enjoyed it. If the kids are able to compare and contrast, it may not make a difference, therefore meaning that watching the film would be a good first choice. If however they do not accept that themes can be portrayed differently (as some kids struggle with this), then perhaps you should go to the theatre 1st. Ultimately, I suppose you are the only one that can decide. Also, please see the details below relating to their guidelines of watching MP with kids. "THEATREGOERS WITH CHILDREN MARY POPPINS is recommended for children 7 years and up. The running time is approximately 2 hours 50 minutes with one interval. In the interests of other patrons, parents with children are reminded that they may be asked to remove any consistently noisy children. Children under 3 years of age will not be admitted to the theatre. Everyone attending MARY POPPINS will be required to have their own ticket." That said, I think the kids under 7 shouldn't attend thing is a funny scare tactic by WDTP. It is less scary than the Child Catcher in Chitty for sure. On the movie front, only the characters and the songs make it into the musical. Each song is set to a completely different scenario, so no, I don't think seeing the movie is essential viewing, except for comparison. The first issue of the magazine has a more comprehensive article about the show's development and a review.
