But they need to be funny, and this wasn't. It was a 'stretch' for Brad Pitt so I hope he had fun. I sure didn't. Wow. For me, Burn After Reading was one of the BEST films of the year. Throw in the other screwball characters, and it seemed more quirky than actually funny. If you ever saw 'raising arizona' with Nicolas Cage, I can use that movie as a comparison. Both moved through their stories awkwardly with oddball characters that are deliberately played in an 'over the top' obvious style. To me, that's off-putting and I couldn't really get into either movie. They seemed a bit too self-concious. But hey - glad you liked it. I also gave a thumbs down to 'benjamin button' and a few people here have gone on to say they really loved that movie too. I haven't seen it, but I'll probably catch it once it rolls around on DVD. That's how I saw 'burn after reading' and with me it just never caught on.
