I loved this movie. Though I tried to watch it at home with the 3-D glasses, and my head is still killing me. Try at your own risk. And is it too scary for kids? It's kind of like the discussions about whether or not a Disneyland ride is too scary - it all depends on the kid. I was terrified by the clown in 'Poltergeist' AND the gopher in 'Caddyshack.' It's really random, isn't it. Yay Neil Gaiman, btw.

Happy to clarify. First, let me preface. I'm a big fan of stop-motion animation -- all the way back to 'Davey and Goliath' and 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' and such. As a kid, I produced a few of my own stop-motion animated movies using an old hand crank Bell & Howell camera, Kodak movie film, and the 'click-click-click' one frame at a time process. Fun. So yeah, 'Coraline' 'NBC' 'James and the Giant Peach' even 'Corpse Bride' and this new one called '9' (it's previewed before 'Coraline') -- they all sort of look like they have the same Art Director. The spindly hand of the creepy mom in 'Coraline' had a lot in common with Jack Skellington's hand etc... The character designs seem similar too. There just seems to be this 'look' now for these types of animated movies. Sort of like the eyes in animated movies that Pixar and Dreamworks produce. All the eyes look the same. But I digress...

Now that same kid is 17 and is extremely desensitzed to almost any form of violence or scary stuff. Is that good or bad? Who knows? He's a great kid and has turned out well. So... who's to say? You just have to roll the dice, do what you think is right as a parent for YOUR kids and leave the rest to Providence, and your child's own ability to cope. So bascially, "it depends on the kid."
