I do believe, however, that we will see an increase in story-based attractions after the fantasyland expansion

One thing I do find odd and a bit refreshing is that they aren't going to have ANY of the canon characters walking around for photo ops. It really is just an environmental thing.

How many Spirits will actually visit those places? But your point is well taken.

<<WDI doesn't have problems. Management telling them where and what to build is the problem.>>

Not quite. WDI definitely has problems. Too many political/sexual/power cliques. Too many people with limited talent pushing tech over immersive 'old school' attractions. Too many people who never knew something a dime could buy that they couldn't spend $100 on. That type of stuff.

But, yeah, ultimately WDI doesn't get to decide what's getting built. That power is the resort heads along with Rasulo and Staggs (and on the very big stuff, Iger).

What I get out of the art and talking to some folks is this will be a very orginal attraction that will basically combine elements of BTMRR, EE, GRR and comical AA type scenes that are very similar in style to things Marc Davis would have come with (think CBJ, WRE, etc).

    But overall, it's an original.

And unlike Mermaid, it's an E-Ticket.

    I think this is bull--%T.

Disney wants to shove interactive tech down the throats of guests. It is pandering to a LCD demo who believe standing in a line for 20 minutes is akin to being held hostage by 'evildoers' ... the same type of folks who need to be texting or Twittering or talking or Facebooking the whole time they are at a Disney theme park.

So, the whole idea is that Disney's parks have become passe because they are passive. This IS what The Weatherman and crew believes. That's why you have LCI ... that's why you have attractions like TSMM and Kim Possible ... you must be an ACTIVE participant in everything at WDW.

They are fundamentally incorrect. Great attractions like PoC stand the test of time.

Anyone think 40 years from now people will still want to color with Aurora?

Agreed. But, do you really think that if WDI was allowed to flourish and do what they (creatively) wanted, would we be discussing all these thematic issues?

We can only hope it'll be cloned in a more...lucerative? Location. Catch my drift?

Did you read what The Weatherman told investors, analysts and media last week?

That Disney was spending/investing an extraordinary amount of capital in the P&R division now (find the story online, too tired to do all your work for you!) with the DCA Extreme Makeover, HKDL expansion, two new cruise ships, DLP additions, Hawaii DVC and, yes, Fantasyland 'transformation' (as that's now the company line on what is happening ... it's amazing how much time and money is spent coming up with PR spin) ... and that by 2014 when most of the above is all finished, he expects things to drop back to a more 'normal' level with the exception of the new resort in Shanghai.

You want to know what normal is?

Look at the Decade of Decline at WDW.

    That's normal.

The world is full of IFs ... it's impossible to say. And while I normally enjoy speculating, these days I find it's wasted energy.

A lot of bad ideas came out of WDI too.

A lot of things that look way kewl in coffee table books (Westcot ... WRE ... Discovery Bay ... BK ... and old Eddie Sotto's beloved Sci-Fi City for TDL!) may have been unpopular if built.

    It's just hard to say.

What isn't hard to say is what I keep repeating.

UNI is clearly trying in O-Town ... Potter is the biggest, best attraction to come to the state since ... Spidey ... Disney hasn't raised the bar since ToT really ... although some might say DAK's KS's did too (and I could argue that) ... point is those were 1990s.

What is Disney trying to do?

Put one over on fanbois addicted to pixie dust.

    I wouldn't count on it.
