My biggest question relating to the mega commercial was the bit about the castle suite as part of the dreams promotion...Once this promotion is gone what are they going to do with it?

Your parade and the way it is made sucks out loud. Deal with it.

    Thank you!

<<I was able to watch only a couple of short interludes of this stuff and it made me cringe.>>

Yes. I would describe the production as cringeworthy.

<<Come on Disney...have a little class. The parade alone if done right can be a huge draw, it didn't need all the useless entertainment and promotional gibberish.>>

That's just the thing, it once was classy ... sure, it was a commercial, but it was classy.

First off, it was live. Yeah, some years that meant sunshine and 80 degrees, while others were cloudy, windy and 58. So what? Weather doesn't stop the Macy's Parade ... or the Tournament of Roses ...etc ...

Since it was live, it was on Christmas. And the people lining the sidewalks were celebrating the holiday at WDW ... they weren't faking Christmas weeks (or even in some of the segments, months) prior. They also weren't 'chosen' by Lightship Entertainment/Disney folks for how they would best play to certain demos.

Sure it was a commercial, but it was a classy one.

You didn't have Capt'n Jack forced to take a boat thru PoC. You might have a celeb give you a tour of the newest Disney attractions or resort, but it wasn't so in your face.

You might just have an Imagineer like Joe Rohde talking about what guests would experience when the new Maelstrom attraction debuted the next spring.

You certainly wouldn't have Samantha Brown shilling the virtues of vacation ownership in DVC, which is unseemly IMHO whether or not you are a member or not. It's akin to discussing grandma's will, while the woman is sitting at the dinner table with the family.

Sure. I'm sure people enjoy it. But that doesn't make a difference to me one bit.
People enjoy WalMart, Nascar and Taco Bell ... I'd prefer to never have anything to do with any of them. But let me put it in words everyone here should understand: folks may enjoy Six Flags parks, but that doesn't mean they are quality and it doesn't mean the people who enjoy them are in possession of good taste. Sometimes, it really is that simple.

Bet this one post gets more responses than my whole What WDW Is Doing Right thread got!

The current plan is to give it to execs for private use (whatever that means ... maybe to entertain new CPers!) and other visiting VIPs.

What gets me is that they have all these kids on the sidelines in their shiny new CARS tshirts and are going nuts over princesses and stuff (and yeah real guests do that but yikes!) It did seem like the guests were a little faker than usual this year..

oh, and that Hannah Montana chick wasn't she cast in a Jungle Cruise promo for WDW planning video?? hmmmm.. sure seems like it.

I enjoyed the commercials for DL better than the so interstitched visions of a million points of light or whatever they're calling it and the starry eyed cast members who get to push DLR (yes I think working at WDW can be a fun & happy thing.. I do know CMs who love coming to work everyday but omg! can I have some of the happy CM pills these folks were taking?? If they got paid half of Kelly Rippa's salary I might have believed it but no! I don't!) Working for less than what the kids at In N Out make down the street is thankless work.. you got to be rich or live at home to do that.

I wish Roy could be in charge of the next parade so maybe we can get the real deal. You don't need the CMs or a bunch of overpaid celebs to sell the million dreams you need real guests that actually enjoy going to WDW like the millenium celebration.. or the DL 50th.

Junk like this make me miss the real excitement that "uncle walt" was capable of putting forth with projects.. The closest I've seen is Joe Rohde or maybe Roy Disney.. ticked off at a board meeting but still very intense and loving Disney.

To be honest, I missed the parade entirely this year. I was working. Sounds like I was the lucky one?

My comments are entirely about the process of making a TV production. Edited final product is usually a better deal than live. At the very least, live shows are paced too slow.

The first year they televised it live, Regis was actually in the crows (standing next to me actually) rather than isolated on a platform or such. He talked with guests and actually got into the line of march and talked with the CM's.

Christmas Day used to be a rather uncrowded day in the MK ... but the yeaqr after they televised it for the first time it got ridiculously crowded.

Then they started taping segments earlier in the year ... and interspersing them with the parade. Then an "insurance" parade was filmed just in case the live parade day was bad weather ... can't show bad weather in WDW!

Then the whole televised parade was filmed earlier and other features were interspersed among it.

Now, you are lucky to see even a few minutes of the real parade ... and as for live? (Did you notice the TV listings designate it as a "live" broadcast? Excuse me?)

Exactly. I wouldn't be so harsh on it if they didn't try and pass it off as such. But what makes it worse is that they insist that it is, to the point where on Philbin's show the Monday after they returned from Florida, they said they were down there for "sound checks" in anticipation of the parade on Christmas. My wife, who was at home sick that day, said the way they carried on about it made her even more nauseous.

If Disney was forthright, even just to the point of dropping the "live" lie, then who really cares? It's their network, they have every right to block out some time for what amounts to an advertisement for the parks, complete with an absolutely shameful plug within a plug for the Vacation time shares. But as trivial as it sounds to some people, to insist the broadcast is "live" from both parks (hell, Beyonce Knowles wasn't even there the same MONTH as Philbin and Ripa), don't kid a kidder. It's this type of crap that erodes the Disney "magic" for those who aren't geeks like us who post on websites. And to follow up on my earlier post, there ARE people who still attend the parks on Christmas day who think they're going to witness the broadcast. Yeah, TV is fake (just like the reality shows), but why rub it in?

Having met both people, my emphatic answer would be NO. But they also owe their careers (especially Kelly) to the Mouse, so you must take that into consideration.

Kelly also has a family with young kids, so I'm sure the free villas (for extended family) plays a part.

But when the script is over-the-top embarrassing, I'm sure they do cringe a bit when they read/act what's written.

Of course. Because they were. In the past, you might pan the crowd and accidentally get someone wearing a Universal sweatshirt or say a Shrek tee ... now, they have even controlled that.
