Took a hell of a big wave and an airborne boat to disable me, pal. And this is definitely a case where older is in no way wiser!!!

    BTW, thanks, Labuda honey!

Yeah, TDLFAN is definetely a crabby old curmudgeon who can never find anything better to do than badmouth Disney, especially WDW.

And how did *superstar* Michael Bolton get to sing the big finale at the end?

Anyway, I used to love watching this when I was little. The parade was hosted by Joan Lunden and Ben Vereen just about every year and that's pretty much what you saw: A PARADE. After a few floats they would zoom to EPCOT Center or DL to look at some new attractions, and then, guess what? BACK TO THE PARADE! There were hardly any celebrity performances, and Regis Philbin would go around asking the guests where they from.

I do remember two constant commercials every year: the free WDW travel video and the one for Kissimmee that resembled an archery board.

Anyway, the parades would always have a myriad of floats that ranged from the animated films to holidays, even 'rare' characters. There was a barn float that had Clara Cluck in it as scarecrows walked/danced around it. There was another float that had the Country Bears (Big Al, Wendell, LiverLips McGrowl and Terrence/Shaker) in it. And why has Brer Fox suddenly vanished from the Brer Float?

What else? I also remember Horace and Jasper driving a dog van with Cruella De Vil standing up between them (the joke was that they would brake suddenly, and Cruella would jolt). In the back of the van were real Dalmatians.

The scripts appear to be getting really bad. For instance, this year, my beloved Villains had some face time in the parade, and what was Kelly's response? "Ooooh, Villains, hide me Regis!"

I was disappointed with this year's parade. It was float, celebrity, float, celebrity, go to DL, celebrity, lather, rinse, repeat.

I believe I have a few of the old Christmas and Easter parades on Beta/VHS. In the case of the latter, it's the 1986 NIGHT version with MC Doug Henning and a performance by... New Edition. :)

And I do remember that WDW special that featured Willard Scott introducing Maelstrom... and one featuring the bicentennial of the Constitution (1986) that featured a bearded Charlton Heston.
