There's a crane next to my freeway exit that has a gigantic "Yes on 8" sign hoisted 30 feet in the air. There are businesses with large banners. Cars with bumper stickers and flags. So many yard signs that the grass is dying from lack of sun. You folks outside CA have NO IDEA what them Mormons and Focus on the Family (don't forget them!) are hitting us with.

All I could think was - YUCK. I immediately changed our Google Ad settings to avoid having these ads display on our blog, and changed our ad from a 'text/image' based ad space to a 'text only' ad space. I figured that this would eliminate the banner ad from displaying on our blog, and I was right. However, it didn't stop the Yes on Prop. 8 campaign from running it's misleading ads on our site in 'text only' form. They are running ads with the header "Gay Marriage" and "Support Marriage Rights", which suggest that visiting their website will give you information on supporting gay marriage. Of course when you click on these ads and visit the website, ProtectMarriage.com, they proceed to push the idea that marriage should "only be between a man and a woman". << http://lezgetreal.com/2008/10/...ian.html

Not all but most of the money supporting the campaign comes from "the Mormons." "We only represent 2% of California, trust me, we have lots of help." Please. It has been well documented that a substantial portion of the funds have come from out-of-state Mormons. The Mormons church is the backbone of this campaign and I don't think anyone could disagree with that. "My guess is it is easy to vilify "the Mormons," because you don't know many of us, but you probably know many Catholics or Protestants, very intersting." So far, only Mormons have come on this board and proudly claimed that their moral values are superior to other people's rights. Until this campaign, many people had a generally positive view of the religion. Your words, and the words of a few other here, have changed that opinion for many people. You are promoting discrimination but you feel you are the one whose rights are threatened. Your actions, in the name of your religion, have frightened people here and as such you have brought your religion under attack. You can't use a set of beliefs to tell other people they are inferior to you and not have that set of beliefs questioned and attacked. Sorry.

Um, I started a whole thread about Catholic support of Prop 8 so it's not just the Mormons being singled out. However, you LDS folks have been by far the staunchest supporters of Prop 8 on these boards. Wouldn't you agree? And at least one of you has tried to justify your position by claiming to follow true prophets of god. That's a tough pill to swallow for the gay folks that also happen to believe in god themselves. Surely you get that, right? Bottom line is, none of your rights are being threatened hear. Yet you are advocating a right be taken away from the gay crowd. You're going to stir up the wrath of quite a few people doing that. And if you do that in the name of your religion, expect your religion to come under the gun.
