In fact, we created a lot more jobs in the 90's than we did after the tax rates were cut, AND we weren't swimming in red ink either. Now to really cut the red ink, we'll have to set the tax rates back to 90's levels for everyone ultimately, but there's a case to be made for not doing that for the middle class until the economy bounces back more fully. But restoring them for the upper income people who have enjoyed them for 12 years now, seeing their share of the national pie spike, all without creating any jobs for the rest of us, makes all the sense in the world. b). Deficits have been cut by Obama already compared to what he was handed - in fact the only president who has cut them more was, tada, Bill Clinton - though you'd never know that from Republican rhetoric. Deficits tend to increase far more under Republican presidents than Democrats (this is simple fact, well documented), and Romney's didn't-come-close-to-adding-up plan would have continued the trend. I'm all for cutting the deficit in a responsible way, as Clinton did, and if Republicans cooperate, I think you'll see that happen. The gap between reality and the noise machine's vision of reality is the only thing that can spawn such comments as "The spoiled brats of this nation figured out they can vote themselves portions of the nation's own treasury." The sad thing is that they've really convinced themselves of this, despite ample facts and numbers and data that disprove it.

That's what the millions spent on lobbying is all about, after all. Wealthy interests spending millions to reap tens or hundred of millions in return as they buy those congressional votes.

One election can't acheive change that is that radical. Unless you really believe Obama is a Commie Marxist (which he obviously ISN'T). Not to mention, what's more likely to happen is the power elite will be come somewhat more diverse while the ESTABLISHMENT remains in place. Don't see too many presidents who bypass the hallowed halls of the Ivy League.

The wealthy elite will be just fine, even if they perhaps can't be QUITE as rapacious, especially if people like Warren craft some intelligent measures with teeth that slow that rapaciousness (though any such measures would probably be DOA in the House). I think Tom was more responding to the ridiculousness of the statement "The spoiled brats of this nation figured out they can vote themselves portions of the nation's own treasury." by pointing out that the spoiled brats who have really been helping themselves to large portions of our treasury lately are the already wealthy folks who insist they need more more more and buy votes to make sure that happens.

We are printing money like a 3rd world country and devaluing our personal wealth. passing on huge amounts of debt to our kids and yet this election was about government funded birth control, vagina freedom and class warfare. Im realy worried about my beloved country and wish some of you would get over your obsession with voting and hatred based solely on gay rights and actually see where we are headed. I have some hope that obama will be more fiscally responsible now that he doesnt have to worry about an election and will get serious, as every serious person in America agrees we have to, about entitlement reform.

They have to become actively involved, not just stamping their feet and saying "no" to anything and everything. Mitch McConnell totally failed in his self-described most important job: Keeping Obama a one-term president. I'd love to see him replaced as minority leader in the Senate. He's exactly the problem for Republicans.

The Democrats are the one who have been awake on this topic for twenty years. Government spending under Obama has grown at a much slower pace than it did under Bush. The Democrats are the ones who have lowered the deficit and improved the economy. They understand that we can't keep spending money the way we are, which is why they've done things like ended two wars that were costing us trillions of dollars and being smart about how we are going to transform our military. They've made moves with student loans and Medicare and Medicaid that are saving tens of billions of dollars while preserving access. The Democrats have proven over and over since 1990 that they are the ones who are serious about reducing government spending and the deficit.
