At least you can still go to WDW and see the old school Swiss Family Treehouse and ride what is more or less the Peoplemover.

I remember when the Bell System sponsored it and the post-show area was so cheesy and wonderful with the speakerphone booths that seemed so exotic for some bizarre reason. We'd always call someone, anyone in those things and screech "We're at Disneyland!" PeopleMover. My heart nearly aches for that one. For an unknown reason I remember vividly the little animated billboards along the speedramp up to the station that had all the little spinning wheels on vehicles, apparently shod with Goodyear tires. Whenever I pass a Goodyear Tire shop to this day I think of the PeopleMover. How interesting that Goodyear hasn't changed their logo since the PeopleMover opened in 1967. America Sings. Gawd I loved that show! The jazzy music when you exited, the twinkling lights on the stage as the theater revolved, the way a half-empty theater would half-heartedly clap along to the theme song. Just fantastic Disney stuff there! The rest of the stuff that's gone? Keelboats, Motor Boats, Skyway? They were fun, but I'm not mourning their loss as much as the stuff in Tomorrowland.

Personally I'm a very nostalgic person, but I have to admit that I miss them all because I DID like them so much and rode them all the time. As an example, I've ridden Star Tours maybe two or three times since it opened (and I worked at the park for ten years and continue to visit regularly). ATIS? I rode it every time I went to the park. There was just something mysterious about it. The music, sound effects, narration. Even though the ride itself was becoming very "retro" there at the end, I still loved it. Same goes for Mars. Same goes for PeopleMover. Loved the music and narration track on that one too! I miss it all. Skyway through the Matterhorn, the Mine Train, Keelboats, Carousel/Sings. Circlevision. Swiss Family Treehouse. TSI (was always my favorite book). Is part of it nostalgia? Yep. But even more so it's just that they were memorable rides that we still talk about today. Like you, TP, I can't hear the name Goodyear mentioned without thinking of PeopleMover. And those Bell telephone exhibits at the exit to Circlevision! All those things bring back such great memories. Not just because of nostalgia, but because they were just great attractions, had an educational piece to them, and continue to be what we talk about today. Many disagree with me, but I still think if they brought back some of those old favorites...they'd have very long lines, for a long time to come.

With a big illuminated wall with DL icons (castle, Matterhorn, PeopleMover) with various Disney characters "riding" them? And then you could pick up the little listen-only phones hanging in front of that wall, press a character, and hear their spiel? The spiels never changed AFAIK, yet I went to that wall and did it just about every time.

It has been a long time since Disney in California has done that (a few things in DCA, but they have since ripped them out for more toons)
