Why would you eat salty risotto and immediately assume that "the chef" has decided to oversalt everything?

Why would you create an LP thread entitled "Yuck - Le Cellier" in which you allege that the restaurant is horrible (based on an oversalted side dish and the lack of 'shrooms on beef) without contacting the restaurant first for an explanation?

I had already mentioned my experience on another board, and many other posters said they had the exact same experience (oversalty food). I had it twice within a week. I have eaten at Le Cellier for 20 or so years now - so if I have 2 bad experiences, I think I am allowed to use the word "yuck". I was very disappointed, as these were my first mediocre meals there *ever*. I did meet some very nice people sitting on either side of me for the dinner (there was plenty of time, as the food was taking a long time coming).

The bread was still good. My chocolate moose was good. I don't say "yuck" on many meals, but I am allowed when deserved.

I have a friend who is a chef, who relayed my (and other guests) experience to the head chef of Le Cellier. The chef had just moved there from the Coral Reef, as I recall.

This is 3 months old now, but I don't have any plans to go back soon.

    Well, that explains EVERYTHING then.

Heck, there's just no WAY to eat yucky fish unless you cover it in salt (and pepper, and mayonnaise, and ketchup, and more salt, an...)!!

Because restaurants change, chefs change, wait staff changes. I've had many world class meals at the Coral Reef, but after my recent not so great meal, I'll probably wait a couple of years before trying it again. But I will indeed try it again, and hope that it returns to former standards.

Since when do threads on a fansite have to have journalistic integrity? Denise posted her opinion, to which she's entitled, and other have either agreed with her or disagreed with her. What's up with putting down a thread that's been getting along just fine for months without you, I-57?

Thank you Dan. :) (I would like to have integrity too, though! :-D)

If someone else has a bad experience at a restaurant I enjoy, I don't question it. I had 3 FANTASTIC meals at Tutto Italia in September, I had 2 very good meals at Trails End, an excellent meal at Teppan Edo in October. I had some mediocre meals too, enough where I can't remember other restaurants I ate at. But Le Cellier was one restaurant which I've never had an even mediocre meal, ever. Not when it was a buffeteria (it wasn't gourmet, but the food was better than other restaurants), and not since it's been a steakhouse. The mushroom filet has been one of my favorite dishes on property. It used to be stuffed, then it was large mushrooms next to the filet, now it's mushrooms chopped into risotto (which was very, very salty).

I don't tend to send back or complain about my meals unless they are completely inedible (i.e. - if I order a medium or medium well steak, and it comes out nearly mooing). I had 2 meals within a week there - one lunch, one dinner. The only reason I had it booked for the lunch was because Teppan Edo was not opening on time, and Le Cellier was what was offered. And at the time, that seemed to be a great choice. The server at dinner was not good, the server at lunch was excellent. The table next to me at dinner had to wait an hour or more for their food, the server didn't notice that the ticket was lost. The family received some Illuminations viewing passes that they couldn't use (then gave them to me, and I passed them to the couple at my right because I thought they'd appreciate them more). We all were sitting for a long time, which was fine with me - I got to have a nice conversation. I was doing the free dining - but I wouldn't have been thrilled if I had to pay for the meals out of pocket. I can get a good cut of beef over at Sam Seltzers (a local chain) for so much less money, and except for sometimes being undercooked - easily remedied - I've still not had a bad meal there. Nor bad service. Not yet!

I'm not sure why this thread lingers after 3 months, but I feel with 2 meals that I would say "yuck" about, I have a right to say so. I almost got dragged for a 3rd meal there a few days after my Disney stay - a friend had an extra free meal left. I didn't want to go to Le Cellier for free at that point, I still have to drive down there and it wasn't worth it to me. But he kept asking, so I went - and Teppan Edo opened that evening. That was a very good meal. And while I'm picky about what types of food I eat (no seafood, no game meat, etc.), I don't complain much about food.

Of course you do, and of course you have! I just thought it was silly for someone to expect you to do your due diligence, go to the restaurant and interview the chef, talk to people who had eaten there at least twice in the past five years, etc. You weren't writing a "fair & balanced" (I LOVE that term!) piece - you were starting a thread in a discussion forum.

Honestly, I like to feed squirrels - not eat them. :) (I don't know if you were kidding or not, though!)

Got it - I wasn't writing a review for Fox News! Thank you for clearing that up. :)

If I read a review in the paper, I expect to get someones opinion, not anything more. I didn't realize I was supposed to do more research. :)

It's been a number of years since I had any squirrel stew.
