    Sea Cucumber

Things I ate and wish I hadn't while living in Alaska:

    Skate
Octopus Cakes (like crab cakes only yucky)
Liver (a few different oceanic animals but this also includes cow and chicken livers. LOL)

Best things I ever ate while living in Alaska:
Fresh king crab and grilled cheese sandwiches
Fresh razor clams, breaded w/cracker crumbs and fried
Sauteed morel mushrooms that we picked ourselves

    Man, I'm hungry...

I think cows are very serene, gentle creatures. Maybe not "cute" like seals, but certainly not ugly. The ancient Greeks didn't call the Queen of the Gods "cow-eyed Hera" for nothin'.

<Personally, I think anyone who's ever killed a mosquito is a hypocrite if they are against killing certain, "cute" animals. Moreso if they've ever gone fishing. And, of course, if they ever ate chicken, cow, or pig meat they should really just shut up.>

Lol, like on an episode of "Designing Women" where the others balk at Suzanne wearing mink in a fashion show...

Suzanne: "Julia, aren't those leather shoes you're wearin'?"

Julia: "Suzanne, we use other parts of a cow."

Suzanne: "I see...so what you're sayin' is if I fixed myself a little mink steak for dinner it'd be okay?"

    lol...and then a bit later:

Mary Jo: "Suzanne does have a point, though. I mean, *all* animals should have rights, not just the cute ones...after all, that's like sayin' only attractive *people* have rights."

Suzanne: "Well, I believe that too..."

    loL!

Mele, the stuff you tried or were offered reminds me of living in Japan...I go through that just about weekly. Ugh.

Alaska must have some awsome, fresh seafoods though!

I caught a skate once, my Mom's husband freaked (I guess they're poisonous?) and we had to throw it back.

    Haha!

Yes, X, it is interesting to see what other cultures eat, especially when it's stuff that we usually think of as garbage. LOL. Ick.

The old native women would just LOVE it when we brought them the fish guts and chopped off heads and fins. I'm thinking it's got to be an aquired taste. My aunt always made us eat 3 bites of every food she prepared except she never tried to make me eat the morel mushrooms (which are really good-if you like mushrooms). She also never tried to force me to eat the seagull egg pie. I think she just knew that I'd put up a huge fight.

It was fun watching her blow the egg yolks out of the shells though. Her cheeks all filled with air and her eyes bugging out of her head. That's some great entertainment for an Alaskan Saturday night. LOL

If so, why? TDG quoted most of what I wrote anyway...I don't see how any of it was offensive (even a little bit!)...or was it a weird system glitch?
